Reviews

As vice president of one of North America’s leading shotcrete materials manufacturers and past president of The American Shotcrete Association, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Bill Drakeley both on The ASA Executive Committee and also on some of New York City’s major construction projects.

His passion for and commitment to the shotcrete industry is most evident through the contributions he has made during his term as a member of the executive board of The American Shotcrete Association.

Bill also proved to be a valuable asset to our company, the general contractor and the owner’s representatives during the construction of New York City’s East Side Access Tunnel Project.

His sound technical background combined with a strong understanding of practical and operational aspects of the shotcrete process make Bill a valuable resource for any contractor, consultant or public authority involved in the shotcrete process.

I am writing on behalf of Bill Drakeley to speak to Local 147’s experience with Drakeley Industries. I was first introduced to Bill in 2011 during the construction of the East Side Access Contract CM009 and CM019. During the course of these contracts, Bill provided training to the members of Local 147 for shotcrete applications and best practices. This project was one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country and at that time, there was no underground-specific shotcrete training program that we could turn to for the type of shotcrete applications required in the specifications of the project. Bill Drakeley was instrumental in developing a program that met the needs of the MTA. Our organization was able to build a highly skilled and well trained workforce that met the needs of both our signatory contractors as well as the owner.

Since that time, Mr. Drakeley has worked with the Local 147 Training Fund as a consultant to ensure that we are able to keep up with the ever-changing process of shotcrete applications. This has allowed Local 147 to become a leader in the industry for shotcrete applications.

I can confidently recommend Mr. Bill Drakeley as one of the best trainers and evaluators in the shotcrete industry and as an invaluable resources for any organization trying to build competent shotcrete crews. On behalf of the members of Local 147, I would like to thank Drakeley Industries for the time spent educating our workforce.
— Christopher Fitzsimmons, Secretary-Treasurer Local 147 LiUNA, NYC
I’ve had the distinct pleasure of actively working with Bill Drakeley in various committees of ACI and ASA. He has a wealth of knowledge about construction with shotcrete, especially in the pool and spa industry, as well as in underground construction. He is a very organized manager and has a great talent for keeping various and divergent tasks and individuals on track with the goal firmly in sight. Bill has committed an enormous amount of time and effort to raising the status of shotcrete in the construction industry, by improving quality, promoting safety and raising visibility of the economic and sustainability benefits of shotcrete as an alternative to cast-in-place concrete construction.

Mr. Drakeley has made it his goal not only to participate in the shotcrete industry but to propagate it through knowledge, education, and professionalism. I personally respect his opinion in the smallest of circles of the shotcrete industry.

It would be difficult to overestimate the value Bill and his team have brought to not only Genesis 3, but the entire pool & spa design and construction industry. He is unwavering in his position on standards and execution - in every aspect of his involvement in education and projects alike. He continues to be invaluable. I consider it a privilege to be both Bill’s friend and industry colleague.

Bill Drakeley’s consultation has been invaluable to me over the years. His advice and direction has allowed me to proceed confidently on my shotcrete projects, particularly when there are difficult circumstances or criteria.

The key for me is Bill’s unique perspective. He trains and teaches the technical end of shotcrete but also has a construction background and has been behind the nozzle himself. It’s this combination of real world experience and technical understanding that I find so valuable.

Although it may sound like a small thing, Bill Drakeley is a skilled communicator and straight forward. In this age of information overload, his ability to be articulate and concise is appreciated.

Our firm, Aquatic Consultants, Inc., is a design consulting company specializing in conceptual and functional design for recreational water projects of all types. We have relied on the services of Bill Drakeley on many of our projects all over the world. When we have questions on concrete and the placement of concrete, he is the first resource we consider. We have recommended Drakeley Industries to several of the pool contractors that we work with for onsite supervision of their projects when high quality is essential. I would highly recommend Drakeley Industries to anyone that wants the top echelon in the world of concrete.
— Brian Van Bower, President, Aquatic Consultants, Inc., FL
Respect and admiration for this true professional, my “go to” resource on all things shotcrete. It is no exaggeration to say my construction performance of swimming pools improved since being advised by Bill Drakeley. What I have learned and continue to learn from him provides an extremely beneficial service to my clients and my future work. I have sat in his classrooms, I sought his advice numerous times and have retained his shotcrete firm to shoot my New York project - each occurrence exceeded expectation. Now, if I could just get him to move to Texas!
